It is amazing how time flies. As you get older it seems to speed up; whirling like a dervish on the brink of control. It was 6 years ago that I was large and in charge with Wesie waiting his arrival that my dad died. I dont' have a very good memory- tending to file information away rather than think about it. Yet after many years on borrowed time; my dad didn't take very good care of himself and his body couldn't keep up. (sorry Nik I had to steal the pic)
I have started to think about health lately for both Scott and I. Do we take care of ourselves? What will our health be like in 20 years? As I look at this picture I can see the signs of what will come in his future. He didn't feel good for so long. Yet, it was shocking to bury him when I felt so young still-29. Although we were not close; I think there were things I still needed to learn from/about him. I never really got to know him; he was such a private person.
Has it really been 6 years? That is longer than I was in college, high school. Longer than I waited to buy a car of my own. Longer than my son is old. With the changes in Scott's family's life and with Scott- I feel the need to talk to him, ask him stuff. I am glad my step-dad is there to pick up the pieces he left behind.
I used to go out to his grave all most everyday- back when I was struggling a lot. It gave me peace even though I knew he wasn't there. I still go out there when I need answers and to check on the baby's grave out there. Is it harder to loose a parent when you are young or a child who has so much life still to live?
My heart grieves for a family who has to face this answer and many more this week. Prayers of peace are the only thing I can offer.
That and the suggestion to go and visit as much as you need over the years to come.
Time heals all wounds, but only if you let it.
I still struggle with it.
