Popcorn eating
I know Rome wasn't built in a day (So history tells us)
Being gone for 30 minutes. Is a little too much. And it is all my fault. Even if I get popcorn

Oh today. Rosa Parks
Today we are watching a movie in school.
I don't like it when K comes home from school and tells me they watched Mary Poppins.
I can't figure, (ok decipher through her 1st grade speak) what Mary Poppins has to do with a first grades learning standards the state of AZ puts upon us.
ANYWAY, Soap Box time over
BUT, my Rosa Parks movie does have something to do with state standards and all that stuff freshmen should be learning according to the state of AZ. ( BTW should we be trusting the state to tell us what our kids need to know? They can't balance a budget AND AZ is ranked like #55 in education) But I soap box again.

I use this movie at the beginning of the To Kill a Mockingbird book because I want the kids to know what we
allowed in the 1930s and how it started to change. It is such a powerful documentary. I had forgotten how powerful it was until I re-watched it this morning with my 1st hour class. I was so moved and grateful that things are different and there are people who try to be better everyday.
I know we still have racism and prejudice, but I also know that we try. It is a good thing to teach our kids what it was like in hopes that they change and learn for the better in the future.

Fine Arts Program
We had a school program yesterday, that was such a time waster for our students.
Imagine trying to get high school, too cool for you, students to listen and appreciate clasical, bluegrass, and country melodies.
ya that fun and fun-ny. but not funny ha ha..
the teachers patrolled the room like a prison yard. All we needed were mirrored sun glasses, sniff dogs, and night sticks.
So I saw the sub.
I think it went pretty well.

First Day back to school; Dante's 1st circle of Hell
I forgot to post this Monday
I don't really have much to say about being back. I saw some people I had missed... mostly adults. I heard some rumors about myself that made me mad and talked until I was almost horse. I picked up some germs from dirty kids who are old enough to know to wash; I found that my sub did better and worse than I expected. All in all everything's ok.
I do have a confession. I would rather stay at home. Is that the first circle of Hell? Wanting what you can't have? I will have to brush up on my Dante to really get it correct.
I talked myself blue in the face; I wanted the kids to know I meant business; that I was BA- Ck. They are getting lectures the first two days with a test on the third. The rumor has it that the some people thinks that I give too much work. It is people like that that give lazy kids fuel for their arguments. I don't give enough hard work if you ask me. The reason anyone fails my class is due to not turning their work in. How pathetic...
On a Wesie note; Kennedy was trying to get something out of the hall closet and had to turn the light on to see. He would sneak down the hall and flick it off just as she was really looking for what ever. He would giggle and run back. It was so funny I forgot to stop the mayhem.
